Thank You

We are deeply grateful to all of you who donated to our Live Your Dream Awards program on April 26, 2024 during Southern New Mexico Giving Day hosted by the Community Foundation of Southern New Mexico. Your generosity will allow us to expand our awards and will make a positive difference in the lives of women and their families in our community.

Soroptimist International of Las Cruces recently awarded more than $10,000 to10 women from New Mexico and West Texas through the Soroptimist Live Your Dream Education and Training Awards program. The awards recognize women who have demonstrated determination, resiliency and the ability to work toward educational goals. The awards also provide financial support that may be used for tuition, books, childcare, transportation or other education-related expenses that typical scholarships don’t cover.

The March 9, 2024 awards ceremony was dedicated to the memory of Maggie Campbell Reynolds who died in November 2023. Reynolds, with her husband Doña Ana County Commissioner Shannon Reynolds (pictured at right), was an ardent supporter of Live Your Dream awardees and participated in the program for many years by presenting awardees with new laptop computers. The Soroptimist mission of helping women achieve educational goals resonated with Maggie because she knew the value of persistence in pursuing an educational goal. As a young single mom she had raised two daughters while serving in the Air Force as a jet engine mechanic, and then as a student on the GI bill working toward a degree in social work. She completed her degree many years after beginning studies, later earned a masters degree and enjoyed her careers as a social worker and mediator. Shannon Reynolds urged the 2024 awardees, “It doesn’t matter how many times you start. The important thing is that you finish.”

This year’s cash awards were made possible through grants from the Nusenda Foundation, the Devasthali Family Foundation Fund of the Community Foundation of Southern New Mexico, Dori-Joe Farm and the John and Eunice Davidson Fund.

2024 Dream It Be It Conference

Equipping Girls for Success

The future started on April 24 for the 24 girls who participated in our Dream it, Be It Conference on that day. They learned how to speak up for themselves, manage stress, avoid financial pitfalls, overcome gender-based obstacles to success, dress for success and more.

"Thank you Soroptimist members for putting this conference together. I loved attending the past year and today. This group has inspired me so much. I am saddened this is my last year to attend. All of you are amazing." -- Kaitlin, 2023 & 2024 Attendee

EVERY (Founders) PENNY COUNTS! In 1943 Soroptimist clubs began collecting one penny from each member for each year of Soroptimist’s existence to help re‐establish clubs in Europe that had disbanded due to pre‐World War II political conditions and the war itself. The tradition continues today to support our global Dream Programs that improve the lives of women and girls in local communities throughout the world. Founders Pennies help create a local and global relationship between Soroptimists and the women and girls who need our support. Founders Pennies represent approximately 10% of the total $1.7 million contributed to fund our programs.

INVESTING IN DREAMS

In 2
023, we made incredible strides in encouraging women and girls to reach their full potential.  As we grew our programs, more women and girls were given the opportunity to start a new chapter in life. This year, through our Live Your Dream Awards program, we were able to provide financial support for eight local women who, despite personal obstacles, are determined to complete education or training that leads to a better future for themselves and their families. Through our Dream It, Be It program, we helped put more than 50 girls on the path to success in education and careers beyond high school. We also awarded scholarships to three of our Dream It, Be It program participants who graduated from high school and are pursuing career education at community college and university.

Will you help us continue to invest in the dream of young women and girls?
