AWARDS

The Training Awards Program (1990-1997) became the Women's Opportunity Award (1998-2104), then the Live Your Award (2014-Present) when Soroptimist of the Americas launched the Dream programs.  Live Your Dream winners at the local level advance to regional events where they can win up to $15,000 in additional awards.

Originally awarded to college students and known as the Louise Garrett Award (1977-2011), it became the SILC Scholarship Award (2008-2017).  In 2018 due to it's similarity to the Live Your Dream Award it was decided to repackage this club-specific award to serve high school girls overcoming the costs of entering college. It is currently the Dream It, Be It Continuing Education Award (2018-Present).

COMMUNITY GIVING

From our very first year in 1970, Soroptimist of Las Cruces has supported many community organizations including AAUW-Girls Can!, Dress the Child, Gospel Rescue Mission, Girls Scouts, Jardin de los Ninos, La Casa, Life Stiches, and Safe Haven.

In 2017 we narrowed our focus to support education exclusively as that has been proven to be the most effective means to raise women, families, and communities out of poverty.

Since 1970 Soroptimist of Las Cruces have volunteered and donated nearly $700,000 in combined Awards and Community Giving.

FUNDRAISING

We've had a lot of fun doing a lot of different fundraising events over the years.  There was the Turkey Trot, Fashion Shows, and Yard Sales; food booths and curb address painting.  We've sold coupon books and held raffles and silent auctions.

Narrowing our focus to educational programs and awards in 2017 has allowed us to tap into many Grant opportunities that support non-profits supporting education.  Over time we hope to be 100% funded by Grants, Donations, and Sponsorships.  This will allow us to focus our time providing more awards and programs rather than spending time on fundraising.
